Analysis

Nothing lasts forever so this blog has to come an end . I hope you enjoyed reading my blog and you will enjoy this entry , too . Here we go
To sum up
The book ‘Holes’ contains 3 stories which are belonged to present Stanley’s , past Kate Barlow’s( the one who robbed Stanley’s grandfather) and also no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather’s.
The main story is basically about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who was sent to Camp Green Lake after being falsely accused of stealing a pair of sneakers which are belonged to a Clyde Livingston famous baseball player . The main point in this Camp Green Lake is ‘Digging holes is helpful for building character .’ Stanley is actually an outcasted boy who blames for his bad luck his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. In the end it turns out that there isn’t such a thing like curses .
One of the sub-story which belongs to Kate Barlow , is about the love about Kate and her lover Sam , how he gets killed and how Kate becomes a robber . In the end she dies because of a lizard and no one knows where she exacty hides her loot . But the possible place is been searching and that places is where Camp Green Lake is located . It isn’t a coincidence . And the last one belongs to family Yelnat .
Style
These stories aren’t written in order . By the time we’ve been reading the book ,we read some parts of both stories and the parts we’ve been reading illuminate the emptiness in the other story . Since stories are related to each other , we can say that the book is well structured. It gives the story mystery and spell . This style makes the story extra-ordinary. However it made the unrealistic .
Every story has its own climax . The main story’s is when Stanley escapes than the story begins to solve itself . But this’s not pleased me actually . From that moment all events become so cliche that there wasn’t any need to continue the story to guess how it is going to end . This is point , which disappointed me very much. There wasn’t anything unexpected . So it becomes childish.
Symbolism is also a thing which writer used a lot . Like the way onions symbolizes good and lizards the danger(Walden’s nails also) and others.
Since the book contains more than one story , there are also more many themes . A specific theme is friendship (between Stanley and Zero ). We can even see the theme love in Kate and Sam’s story .An other important  theme is racism and it is also the theme which separates the book from a children’s book .
I guess the message that writer is trying to give us ‘We are the ones who create our destiny.’  Which is really hopeful . Also he tries to show that there isn’t any racism left in present unlike the story of Kate and Sam.
So here are my critics. It is easy to read and fluent . However it didn’t surprised me  . I cant say that it is extra-ordinary but I’ve enjoyed reading it .

Just incase you don’t want to read the book and check what it is going on , you can watch the film or check the link below .

What may happen next ?

I’ve just finished the first part and my first job for tomorrow is going to be reading the rest of the book . I have some ideas about what may happen in next parts . First of all the book is going much better then I’ve expected . I’ve even cried (almost) . The story of Kate and Sam was a little sad and the part when trout called Kate ‘The Devil Woman’ (page 92) just because  she kissed the guy she loved , that was kinda appalling .
As I have mentioned before that this book has been adapted as a movie and we all know that this is a children's book , it has to be a happy ending  . My ideas about what may happen next:

  • ·        First of all we all understand that ,that two stories related to each other(Kate and Sam/Stanley) . So we may understand that Walden is searching that loot and that loot is related to Stanley's big grandpa.
  • ·        Stanley is going to be rich one way or another . I am not pretty sure but either of them is going to happen(maybe both). He is going to find the loot which was once stolen by Kate Barlow or his father is going to invent something .
  • ·        And ofcourse he is going to get the hell of that place . I am not sure but he already feels under pressure because of Warden and Mr.Sir . Maybe he is going run away and survive like his big-grandpa and there around big thumb he is going to find the loot .
  • ·       Zero is taking more place lately so there has to be a happy ending for him too . Maybe he is going to be the one that stanley is going to escape with and there they are going to be bff .
  • ·        And in the beginning we’ve read something about  incredibly dangerous yellow-spotted lizard so there has to be something about it too . So I guess or I hope because I hated the characters in Camp Green Lake , after Zero and Stanley run away , the camp will be occupied by Yellow-spotted lizards so they will all die and after that terrible event that camp will be closed forever .

These are my thoughts for the ending but I guess I’ve exaggerated a little , there are more violence for a childbook .

Character Analysis-Zero

Zero(Hector Zeroni) is my favourite since I think he has the  strangest personality in the entire book . He is different from the others .
At first Zero is the guy who is out-casted by others because he almost doesn’t speak but after sometime he becomes the best friend of Stanley . And also he got the name Zero before he gets in Camp Green Lake .
The life he had before the Camp Green Lake is also a difficult one . He was homeless as his parents left him . So to get what he’s been needing , he started to steal but just what he needed. And also he is the one who has stolen the sneakers of Clyde Livingston but he tells the truth to Stanley although he haven’t needed to tell it . So we can say that he is an honest person .
Since he has the name ‘Zero’ , I’ve thought that he wasn’t a necessary character and also he was stupid . But by the time we’ve been reading , we realize that he isn’t stupid at all unlike the others. But all the other guys even Mr. Pendanski and Mr.Sir  think so . We can say that he is carefree that he doesn’t even bother to explain them that he isn’t . Also his will to learn reading made me have sympathy to him.
I can also say that he is a survivor .After he has ran away from the Camp Green Lake and Walden , he stayed alive in nonexistence. Everybody thought that he was dead but he wasn’t . An other impressive thing about him is that he is the fastest digger in the camp in spite of his little frail body .
In the beginning he was almost nothing . He was the guy who said he wanted to be a digger but ın the end he shows us how be a nice , strong . All the characters are same how they have been told in the beginning . But we discovered the real Zero in the end.

Holes! It looks as though nice , doesnt it ? ( First Impression)

Before I started reading the book ‘Holes’ , I asked some friends who have already read it . They’ve all said that , it was the best book the school’s ever given as a homework and I’ve also googled the book , so I found a film named Holes . Then I’ve thought if this book has been adapted as a film then it should be a nice one .

As I started to read the book I read that information about Camp Green Lake.
‘Now it is just a dry , flat wasteland.’

Camp Green Lake where the story takes place reminded me Tuz Gölü in a way  . Because both lakes are dry .Here is picture of me on Tuz Gölü. It is located in Konya , a city of Turkey The difference is that the Tuz Gölü has a base of salt .
After reading the first chapter it can be understood that living in Camp Green Lake is like living in survivor island(tv show). It says that the lake is really hot , there aren’t any shades and there live small rattlesnakes and scorpions , yellow spotted lizards… It does sound like hell on earth, doesn’t it  ?

I guess I need to read a little more to find out what kind of a story takes place in here and share my ideas with you  ! I can't wait to read more !
